Ferrara's winning streak continues at Swarthmore

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Senior Alex Ferrara won her 10th straight singles match but the visiting Haverford College women's tennis team fell 6-3 to rival Swarthmore College in Centennial Conference action on Wednesday evening.

The Fords (10-4, 6-3 CC) earned all of their points during the singles portion of the match. Ferrara, playing at No. 2, outlasted Katie Samuelson (6-4, 6-7, 1-0 (10-6)) to keep her winning streak intact.

Robyn Himelstein captured her sixth conference victory of the season by rallying past Alli Wong at No. 3. After falling 6-3 in the first set, Himelstein registered a 6-3 victory of her own in set two. The junior then completed the comeback with a 10-2 win in the super tiebreaker.

Senior Kate Donches accounted for Haverford's other point in the match with a straight-set victory (6-2, 6-1) over Gayarti Iyengar at No. 4.

The win by the Garnet (8-8, 7-2) gives Swarthmore another point in this year's race for the Hood Trophy. The Fords currently lead 9-3 in the friendly competition between the two institutions.

Looking to clinch a spot in the Centennial tournament, Haverford closes out the regular season on Saturday against visiting Gettysburg College at noon.
