Two Straight for Gallagher on Academic All-Area Squad

PHILADELPHIA - Haverford College junior Caitlin Gallagher has been named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's Tennis Team for the second straight year as announced Monday by the Philadelphia Area Sports Information Directors Association (Philly-SIDA).

Eligible athletes for the all-academic squad must hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher and must be in at least the second year at the nominating institution. Voting for the team is conducted by the sports information offices of the 28 institutions in the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

Gallagher, who was voted the Centennial Conference player of the year as a sophomore, led the Fords to their first appearance in the Centennial tournament finals in program history with a 7-3 conference record at top-flight singles in 2014. A first-team All-Centennial singles honoree for the last two seasons, Gallagher was ranked 25th in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) regional singles rankings of the season.

Gallagher has also excelled in doubles play throughout her career as she has been a mainstay of Haverford's top-flight doubles tandem that earned second-team all-conference recognition in 2012 and 2013.

Named to the conference's academic honor in 2013 and 2014, Gallagher has reached the double-digit mark in singles wins every year of her career. The native of New Canaan, Conn. will enter her senior season ranked among the program leaders in career singles wins (44) and winning percentage (.746).

Gwynedd Mercy University's Rachel Fein earned performer of the year honors for the third straight year. Joining Gallagher and Fein on the all-area squad were Catherine Austin of Bryn Mawr College, Aurora Davis of Saint Joseph's University, Katie Samuelson of Swarthmore College and Sol Eskenazi of the University of Pennsylvania.
