Women's Tennis Concludes Play at USTA-ITA Southeast Regional

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Haverford College women's tennis team wrapped up play at the USTA-ITA Southeast Regional Championships on Sunday. The Fords' day was highlighted by an appearance in the "Blue" 3 Doubles semifinals and runs to the third round of the consolation draws in both the championship singles and doubles tournament.

After dropping her championship round of 64 match yesterday in the championship singles, Abby Payson rebounded Sunday morning with a hard-fought 9-7 victory in her first round consolation draw against Elizabethtown's Kaitlyn Pellegrino. After receiving a bye in the second round of that draw, Muhlenberg's Jennifer Goldberg edged out Payson, 8-5, finishing her weekend with one singles win.

The duo of Robyn Himelstein and Greta Koch also made the third round consolation of the championship draw in the doubles bracket. Bouncing back from a round of 64 loss in the championship bracket, Himelstein and Koch received a walkover victory against their Centennial Conference opponents from Dickinson who had to withdraw for medical injuries. After a second round bye, Himelstein and Koch saw their tournament come to an end with an 8-4 defeat at the hands of Bridgewater's Kait Brogan and Alina Suyama.

The Fords' Courtney Ahmed and Jessica Liu were the last Haverford entrants left in the championship draw after going 2-0 on Saturday in "Blue" 3 Doubles action. However, their run through the championship bracket of that draw was ended by Grove City's Julie Becker and Janine Jones by an 8-3 score in Sunday morning's semifinal.

After wrapping up play at the Southeast Regional, women's tennis will return back to campus for next Saturday's Alumnae Match to conclude the fall portion of the schedule. The Alumnae Match will get underway at 11 a.m.
