Women's Tennis Rolls Past McDaniel, 9-0

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's tennis team picked up its third 9-0 sweep of the spring season Saturday against McDaniel. The Fords (9-2, 2-1 CC) did not allow more than three games at any position en route to the conference victory.

In doubles, the No. 2 pairing of Abby Payson and Kristen Andersen blanked their opponents with an 8-0 score. At No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, the Fords were 8-2 winners. Caitlin Gallagher and Robyn Himelstein improved to 7-4 overall at No. 1 doubles with their most recent victory. Abigail Healy and Caroline Steliotes picked up the duo's third win together at No. 3.

In singles play, Gallagher racked up her seventh win of the spring during a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1. Both Himelstein (No. 2 singles) and Payson (No. 3 singles) allowed just one game in each of their straight set wins. Payson's win was her team-leading 10th of the season. Himelstein improved to 8-5 on the year with Saturday's victory.

At No. 4 singles, Jessica Liu matched Payson's team-leading 10 victories as she improved to 10-2 overall on the season with a 6-1, 6-2 win. With the match decided, Nos. 5 and 6 singles were played to eight-game pro sets. Jia-Ling Tuan improved to a perfect 2-0 with an 8-1 win at No. 5 singles, while Alyssa Lavin notched her first win of the spring with an identical 8-1 win at No. 6 singles.

Women's tennis continues its stretch of home matches Wednesday against Ursinus. First serves are scheduled for 4 p.m. in that match. Haverford will also be home next Saturday against Franklin & Marshall in a scheduled 1 p.m. start.
