ORLANDO, Fla. – The Haverford College women's tennis team was successful during its debut match in Florida with a 9-0 win against Alvernia University on Sunday morning. The Fords (1-1) won all nine matches on their first day to give head coach Arik Zeevy a clean sweep for his first career victory.

Haverford got the momentum rolling with a convincing sweep in doubles. The Fords allowed just one game in the second and third doubles matches. Jessica Liu and Emily Shutman held down the second position, while Rory Lewis and Jane Bary were winners at No. 3. An 8-3 win in the top doubles match from Greta Koch and Abby Payson got the match off to a 3-0 start.

The Fords proceeded to win each of the six singles matches in straight sets. With four new players in the lineup during singles play, only Liu and Koch were double winners on the day. Koch assumed the top position and won by a 6-3, 7-5 score. Liu allowed just one game in each set during her 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 3.

The most convincing win of singles came from Courtney Ahmed as she allowed just one game in the second set to win her match at No. 6. Jia-Ling Tuan (No. 5), Ali Morrow (No. 4), and Clara Farrehi (No. 2) also had sets where they were 6-1 winners. That trio of players allowed just two, three, and four games, respectively, in their other sets.

Women's tennis will have a day of training on Monday in preparation for Tuesday's matchup with Methodist. Methodist is currently ranked 11th in the ITA's Atlantic South Region as a team.
