SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Haverford College women's tennis team got its fall 2017 season underway at the Swarthmore Invitational over the weekend. The Fords, who competed against Swarthmore, La Salle, and Vassar, collected 12 wins in singles and two more in doubles.

Sophomore Julia Gan highlighted the weekend's singles action with a team-best three wins against just one loss. Playing all but one of her matches against Vassar, Gan started her weekend with a 10-point tiebreak win in her first match and also had a straight set, and superset victory.

Senior Greta Koch, junior Rory Lewis, and first year Sarah Evenson notched 2-1 records in singles over the weekend. Koch started her week with two straight set wins before a hard-fought defeat in her third singles match of the weekend. However, her doubles win with Emily Shutman came against a pairing that included the Swarthmore player who handed the captain her only singles defeat. Lewis bookended her singles weekend with a 10-point tiebreak and straight set win against opponents from La Salle and Vassar. Evenson won her collegiate debut in a 10-point tiebreak against an opponent from Swarthmore and closed her weekend in similar fashion against Vassar.

Renata DiDonato, Natalie Williams, and Shutman also came away with a singles win on the weekend. DiDonato's victory, also coming in a 10-point tiebreak, was her only singles match of the weekend. First year Natalie Williams notched her first collegiate win with a straight set win over her opponent from Vassar. She also closed her weekend with a doubles victory against Swarthmore as she teamed up with classmate Hannah Wolfer. In addition to her doubles win with Koch, Shutman opened her weekend with a 10-point tiebreak win against her opponent from Vassar College.

Women's tennis will have the upcoming weekend away from competition as the team prepares for the ITA Southeast Regional at Mary Washington that is slated for Saturday, September 23 through Monday, September 25. The Fords close the fall season with their annual Alumnae Match on Saturday, October 7.
