Centennial Conference Team-by-Team Preview

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Coming off of a semifinal appearance in the Centennial Conference Tournament a season ago, the Haverford College women's tennis team was predicted for a third place finish in the conference's preseason poll. In a vote of the Centennial Conference's head coaches, Haverford received 68 voting points.

The Fords went 10-8 a season ago with a 7-3 record against Centennial Conference competition. That record earned Haverford a fourth place finish in the Centennial Conference Tournament where it dispatched of fifth-place Washington College by a convincing 5-1 score during the first round matchup before falling to eventual champion Johns Hopkins during the semifinal round.

Haverford returns three of its top four players from both its singles and doubles lineups last season. That group includes last year's No. 1 Emily Shutman, No. 2 Greta Koch, and No. 4 Jane Bary. In addition to those players, Clara Farrehi saw extensive time in the third doubles position where she was 12-10 in those matches.

Women's tennis has made the Centennial Conference Tournament during eight of the last nine seasons and has advanced to at least the semifinal round in all but one of those seasons. The Fords' first-ever appearance in the championship match came during the 2014 spring season.

Haverford is set to open its spring season on Saturday, March 3 when the Fords travel to No. 33 New York University. Centennial Conference play for the team opens on Saturday, March 24 when McDaniel comes to campus.
