ORLANDO, Fla. – The Haverford College women's tennis team capped a perfect 3-0 week in the Sunshine State with an 8-1 victory over Mount Holyoke on Thursday. The Fords (4-1) have now won four straight matches overall after recording just the third unbeaten Spring Break trip in program history this week.

During the doubles competition, the No. 1 pairing of Emily Shutman and Jane Bary – along with the No. 3 team of Sam Berg and Clara Farrehi – both doubled up their opponents by identical 8-4 scores. Berg and Farrehi have now won two straight matches together and are 3-1 as a duo this spring. The No. 1 team of Bary and Shutman got back on the winning track with what was also its third win of the spring season.

In the middle doubles match, Greta Koch and and Julia Gan surrendered just one more game than their teammates in what was an impressive showing all the way around. Since coming together at the start of the team's winning streak, the Koch/Gan pairing has also won four straight matches.

Haverford backed up its strong showing in doubles with five straight-set singles victories. Emily Shutman did not drop a game all afternoon at No. 4 singles as she has now won four straight matches and remains unbeaten in that position of the lineup. Jane Bary has also won four straight matches now and is unbeaten in her current position. She dropped just one game during each set of the No. 2 singles match.

Julia Gan (No. 1) and Clara Farrehi (No. 5) won by identical 6-3, 6-1 scores at their respective positions. Gan's victory was her second of the season since entering at the top of the lineup. Farrehi completed an undefeated week in Florida with her third straight singles victory.

Sam Berg also won in singles for Haverford. She came through with a hard-fought 6-4 opening set win before cruising to a 6-1 score in the second. Berg got back on the winning track with her latest result and is 3-1 at the sixth singles spot this spring. Mount Holyoke got its only victory in a 10-point tiebreak. Greta Koch had an early set advantage when she emerged a 7-5 winner at No. 3 singles. However, a 6-4 second set fell to her opponent before the 10-point tiebreak decided the match.

With its competition schedule complete for the week, the Fords will have a couple practice sessions before returning to campus this weekend. Haverford will return to competition on Saturday, March 24 for the start of Centennial Conference play against McDaniel. Playing the Green Terror at home, first serves in that match are scheduled for 12 p.m.
