COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Haverford College women's tennis team secured a 9-0 sweep of Ursinus on Tuesday during its ninth straight victory. The Fords (9-1, 5-0 CC) are now within a single victory of the program's longest winning streak which was set in 1991. Haverford had previously won nine straight matches on five straight occasions, with the most recent occurrence coming during the 1996 season.

Dating back to last spring, the Fords have now won six straight Centennial Conference regular season matches for the fourth longest such streak in school history. The last time that happened was during the 2014-15 seasons when the team won seven straight conference battles over those two years. With sweeps in singles and doubles against the Bears, the Fords now have a combined 43-4 record between singles and doubles against Centennial Conference competition this spring.

Haverford got a pair of 8-1 wins in doubles from the Nos. 1 and 3 teams. The regionally-ranked top pairing of Jane Bary and Emily Shutman is now 6-4 together this spring. The No. 3 duo of Sam Berg and Clara Farrehi has now won four straight matches and is 5-1 overall as a pairing.

The No. 2 doubles tandem of Julia Gan and Greta Koch kept its winning ways going with an 8-2 victory in the middle position. That pairing is now a perfect 8-0 together this spring with four victories against CC competition.

In singles, Emily Shutman and Clara Farrehi did not allow a single game at Nos. 3 and 4 singles. Shutman is now 4-0 in conference singles matches to go along with her team-leading nine singles victories. She has won eight straight matches. Farrehi improved to 3-0 against conference foes with her win at No. 4 singles. She has won six straight matches and tallied seven wins overall this season.

Jane Bary assumed the No. 1 spot in the lineup for tonight's match and came through with a 7-5, 6-2 win. The win was her eighth straight and makes 3-0 in conference matches after her second win of the year in the top singles match. At No. 2 singles, Greta Koch won her ninth match to tie Shutman for the team lead. The senior co-captain was victorious following back-to-back 6-2 set wins.

With the team result decided, the final two matches were played to eight-game pro sets. Sam Berg was an 8-1 winner in her pro set, recording her fifth straight victory this spring. She now has six wins overall and is unbeaten in three Centennial singles matches. Izzy Angstman closed the evening with a 7-4 win during the tiebreak of No. 6 singles to secure the sweep. Angstman is now 2-0 when called into the singles lineup this spring.

Women's tennis will now prepare to square off with the other two unbeaten Centennial Conference foes this weekend. On Friday, Haverford travels to Hood Trophy rival Swarthmore for a 4 p.m. match. On Saturday, the Fords are back at home against defending Centennial Conference Champion Johns Hopkins at 11 a.m. That match on Saturday kicks off a stretch of three straight home matches for the Fords.
