Jane Bary Wins for Women's Tennis vs. No. 20 Johns Hopkins

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Jane Bary won her match at No. 2 singles, highlighting the Haverford College women's tennis team's afternoon against No. 20 Johns Hopkins. Nevertheless, the Blue Jays (6-6, 6-0 CC) remained unbeaten in Centennial Conference play with an 8-1 win over the Fords (9-3, 5-2 CC). That match-up featured the Nos. 6 and 11 teams in the Atlantic South Region.

Playing singles first, Bary got her day off to a great start as she allowed just one point during her first-set tiebreak to go up early. The Blue Jay evened the match with a 6-3 second set, but Bary rebounded with an 11-9 win during the 10-point tiebreak. Bary has now won nine straight matches for the Fords. She is 5-0 against Centennial Conference opponents in singles and boasts an 8-0 record at her usual No. 2 spot in the lineup.

Johns Hopkins took the remaining singles matches in straight sets despite the Fords taking games at every position in the lineup. Emily Shutman won five games at the No. 4 spot in the lineup, while Greta Koch took four games off of her Blue Jay opponent.

Moving over the doubles, the tightest match came at No. 2 doubles where the pairing of Greta Koch and Julia Gan dropped an 8-4 match. The Fords won two games in the top doubles match and picked up another game at No. 3 doubles.

Saturday's match against Johns Hopkins started a three-game homestand for the team. The Fords will next be back at home on Wednesday, April 18 against Bi-Co neighbor Bryn Mawr. That match is slated for 4 p.m. first serves.
