HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's tennis team celebrated Senior Day on Saturday against Dickinson with an 8-1 victory over the visiting Red Devils. In the process, the Fords (11-3, 7-2 CC) officially clinched their spot in the Centennial Conference Tournament.
Haverford took two of the three doubles matches with wins in the second and third positions. Emily Shutman and Jane Bary secured an 8-3 victory at No. 2 doubles, marking their eighth win together this spring. That pairing has now won two straight and owns five conference victories together. The No. 3 pairing of Clara Farrehi and Natalie Williams was victorious by an 8-4 score. The Farrehi/Williams team has won both of its matches in which the two Fords were paired together. Dickinson's only win of the entire afternoon came at the No. 1 position where the duo of Greta Koch and Julia Gan moved up in the lineup, dropping an 8-2 match.
During singles play, it was all straight-set victories for the Fords. Senior Greta Koch won her final match on the Marshall Tennis Courts with back-to-back 6-3 set wins. Playing at No. 2 singles on Saturday, Koch now owns 10 singles wins this year with half of them coming in conference showdowns. Jane Bary won the No. 1 singles match by a 6-4, 6-3 score for her 11th victory of the year. She is a perfect 7-0 in conference matches this year and has three wins in the top singles match.
Emily Shutman won back-to-back 6-2 sets during her victory at No. 3 singles. Shutman leads the Fords with 12 victories in singles this year and is 7-1 against Centennial Conference competition. Clara Farrehi moved up to No. 4 in the singles lineup, recording a 6-4, 6-1 win. Farrehi now has nine wins this year, with a 5-2 record in conference matches.
First years Sam Berg and Ananya Prakash were winners for Haverford in the final two singles matches. Berg is now 7-3 this year, including a 4-1 mark against Centennial foes after a 6-0, 6-3 victory on Saturday. Prakash won by a 6-2, 6-3 score to tally her second win of the spring. Both of her victories have come during conference match play.
Women's tennis will conclude its regular season next Saturday, April 28 with a match at Gettysburg that is scheduled to get underway at 1 p.m.
