Women's Tennis Starts 2-0 in CC with 7-2 Victory at Bryn Mawr

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Haverford College women's tennis team picked up its second straight Centennial Conference victory with a 7-2 win against Bi-Co neighbor Bryn Mawr on Wednesday afternoon. The Fords swept all three doubles and also came away with Nos. 3-6 singles to stay unbeaten early in the conference schedule.

The Fords made quick work of doubles to jump out to the early advantage. At No. 3, the pairing of Claire Johnson and Sarah Evenson allowed just one game to its opponents for the first win together as a doubles pairing this spring. Haverford's No. 2 pairing of Ananya Prakash and Natalie Williams conceded just two games in total, recording its second straight conference win together.

At the top of the lineup, Haverford found itself in the closest match of doubles but still managed to come away with a convincing win. The Fords' top doubles pairing of Clara Farrehi and Emily Shutman also recorded its first doubles win of the spring season together as Haverford carried a 3-0 lead into singles play.

Although there were some tight individual matchups, the Fords quickly wrapped up the team score with strong performances at No. 3 and No. 4 singles. Claire Johnson finished her day as a winner in both singles and doubles for the Fords as she conceded just a single game during the second set for her first singles victory this spring and fourth win dating back to the fall. Clara Farrehi posted back-to-back 6-1 set wins at No. 3 as she improved to 2-0 in conference play and officially clinched the team's victory.

Playing No. 5 singles, Ananya Prakash needed a 10-point tiebreak to capture her match. Nevertheless, she would do so by doubling up her opponent in that tiebreak after splitting the first two sets. Prakash forced the tiebreak with a 6-2 win in the second. The Fords' sophomore is now 2-0 in conference singles this spring. Renata DiDonato was a winner in straight sets for the Fords at No. 6 singles. After a resounding 6-2 win during the opening set, DiDonato needed extra points in the second set but controlled the tiebreak throughout for an eventual 7-1 victory in her conference singles debut. Bryn Mawr secured its only two points of the match at the top two singles positions.

Women's tennis will return to action this weekend with another Centennial Conference matchup at Franklin & Marshall. First serves in Lancaster are scheduled for 12 p.m. noon.
