Women's Tennis Sweeps Muhlenberg, 9-0

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's tennis team picked up its first sweep of the season on Wednesday afternoon as the Fords (4-4, 4-0 CC) won 9-0 against visiting Muhlenberg. Ranked No. 11 in the ITA Atlantic South Region, Haverford dropped just two games combined over all three doubles matches before sweeping the singles in consecutive straight set victories.

The No. 3 doubles team of Sarah Evenson and Claire Johnson picked up its third consecutive win as that duo did not drop a game during its 8-0 victory. The Evenson/Johnson pairing improved to 3-0 in Centennial action with the win. Haverford won the Nos. 1 and 2 singles matches each by 8-1 scores. At No. 2, Ananya Prakash and Natalie Williams recorded their fourth straight win together, all which have been conference victories. At the top of the lineup, Emily Shutman and Clara Farrehi posted their second Centennial Conference victory of the season.

Moving into singles, the Fords won four different sets by 6-0 scores in a strong showing throughout the lineup.  Emily Shutman and Izzy Angstman allowed just one game to each of their opponents. Playing No. 1 singles, Shutman was a 6-1, 6-0 winner to even her conference mark at the top position. Angstman was a 6-0, 6-1 victor during her first conference match of the season.

Clara Farrehi matched the team's winning streak with her fourth straight Centennial Conference singles victory. Playing at No. 3, Farrehi was a 6-1, 6-1 winner and now has five victories on the year. Mima Khazanov also conceded just two games to her opponent at No. 6. Khazanov was making her spring debut in singles during the win over the Mules.

Natalie Williams and Renata DiDonato secured team points at the No.2 and No. 4 positions. Williams was a 6-0, 6-3 winner at No. 2 singles and has now won back-to-back matches as she improved to 3-1 this spring against conference foes. DiDonato played her highest ranked match of the spring, but still won by a convincing 6-1, 6-2 score. DiDonato is now 2-1 in Centennial Conference singles play this year.

Women's tennis will have the upcoming weekend away from competition before returning to the courts next Tuesday, April 9 for a road trip to Ursinus. That Centennial Conference match will get underway at 4 p.m. in Collegeville.
