Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area release
PHILADELPHIA – Centennial Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year Clara Farrehi has been named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team. Farrehi, a rising senior and team captain, earned this latest honor for the first time in her career.
The academic all-area team of six individuals is voted on by the sports information offices of the 29 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area (Division I, II, and III). In order to be eligible for academic all-area honors, an athlete must be in at least her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better.
Clara Farrehi teamed up with fellow co-captain Emily Shutman to form the No. 1 doubles pairing for women's tennis this spring, earning second-team All-Centennial Conference accolades as she tied for the team lead with seven doubles victories. Playing No. 3 singles, Farrehi tied for the team lead in singles with eight victories, going a team-best 7-2 in Centennial Conference matches this spring. Farrehi has now been named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll during each of her first two eligible seasons for that recognition.
Women's tennis finished the year ranked No. 13 in the Atlantic South Region as a team. The Fords (8-8, 8-2 CC) fell only to nationally-ranked opposition and advanced to the semifinals of the Centennial Conference Tournament after finishing third in the regular season standings. Haverford set a program record with 10 straight Centennial Conference regular season victories dating back to the 2018 season as it started 7-0 in conference play during the 2019 season. The Fords have made the Centennial Conference Tournament in three straight years and 10 of the last 11 overall.
