FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Haverford College women's tennis team sent two singles players and one doubles team to the semifinal round during the opening day of the ITA Southeast Regional Championships. Clara Farrehi and Claire Johnson each made the semifinals of their respective singles draws, while the pairing of Sarah Evenson and Ananya Prakash advanced to that same spot in the doubles draw.

The day began with doubles as four of Haverford's five doubles pairings started the day with a victory. The Evenson and Prakash duo started its run to the semifinal round with a hard-fought 8-6 victory against Stevens in the "C" draw and backed that up with an 8-5 win in the quarterfinals against Virginia Wesleyan. That pairing will look for a spot in the championship match tomorrow morning when it battles Wilkes at 8:45 a.m.

The Fords had two entrants in the "B" doubles draw. The pairing of Emily Shutman and Natalie Williams, along with Isa Cossio and Clara Farrehi, were each 8-1 winners in the Round of 16 before falling in the quarterfinals. Anna Malkov and Liv Pindzola joined Haverford's quarterfinalists in the "C" draw before being tripped up. Haverford's lone pairing in championship doubles, Lisette Pham and Anne Tobin, drew the No. 5-ranked pairing in their opening matchup and will return for consolation action against Washington & Lee on Sunday morning.

Clara Farrehi advanced to the semifinals of the "D" singles draw as she emerged victorious following an 11-9 tiebreak victory in the third set of her quarterfinal. That was in stark contrast to how she opened her day as she began with a double bagel victory in singles against Virginia Wesleyan. However, fellow "D" draw entrant Natalie Williams fell in a 10-point tiebreak to see her ITA regional come to a close during that same quarterfinal round.

Claire Johnson did not drop a set en route to her semifinal appearance in the "E" draw. Johnson was a 6-1, 6-1 winner during her opening round and defeated Centennial Conference foe Caroline Ulrich of Franklin & Marshall by a 6-2, 6-1 score in the quarterfinals.

Haverford had two individuals contest the championship singles draw in Isa Cossio and Emily Shutman. Both players fell during the opening round but will have a chance to secure victories in the consolation bracket on Sunday. Lisette Pham also contested singles for the Fords out of the "B" draw. She won her first set 6-0 before her opponent retired. In the quarterfinals, Pham dropped a hard-fought match against Grace Dignazio of rival Swarthmore to see her singles weekend come to a close.

Women's tennis will wrap up its second and final day of the ITA Regional Championship on Sunday. Action will once again begin with doubles as Pham and Tobin get the day started for the Fords with consolation action in the championship draw set to begin at 8 a.m. A complete list of Haverford's results and upcoming opponents on Sunday is available below.
