Abbey Russano Set for NCAA Singles Championships Friday

ORLANDO, Fla. - Haverford College women's tennis sophomore Abbey Russano will face off with Sabrina Tang of Grinnell College (Iowa) in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Singles Tournament on Friday morning at the USTA National Campus, the NCAA announced in a bracket released late on Wednesday. 

Russano, from Bridgewater, N.J., was the first Haverford player to earn individual qualification to the national tournament since Amanda Figland in 1988. Russano earns direct qualification as the No. 2 player in Region III, after logging a 10-6 record during the dual match season, including a 6-2 mark in Centennial Conference play. Moving into the top flight towards the end of the season, Russano made her mark with a 6-1 record at No. 1 singles this season.

Tang, from Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. was the ITA Regional champ last fall. She set a Grinnell record this season for victories in a single season. She owns a 29-5 mark and ranked third in the Central Region while holding down the No. 12 national ranking throughout the season.
