Strong effort by women's indoor track at Haverford Holiday Meet

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's indoor track team received strong performances from up and down the roster at the Haverford Holiday Meet in Alumni Field House on Saturday afternoon.

The first competition of the season for the whole squad saw Cara Keifer and Rachael Potter finish first and second in the 800 meter run as Keifer took first in 2 minutes, 25.08 seconds and Potter followed with a career-best time of 2:26.41.

Flora Berklein and an indoor-best effort by Charlotte Lellman provided the Fords with another 1-2 finish in the 5,000m with times of 18:36.97 and 19:05.24, respectively.

Sophomore Carolyn Oehrig added another first-place finish for Haverford in the high jump as she matched her career-best mark of 1.52 meters (4 feet, 11.75 inches). Oehrig also placed fifth in the long jump while freshman Keri Godbe registered a pair of solid efforts with third in the high jump and seventh in the long jump at her first collegiate meet. Senior Emma Kornetsky led the Fords in the long jump with a fourth-place finish (4.81, 15-9.50).

Robin Chernow (pictured) finished second in the shot put with a career indoor-best toss of 11.14m (36-6.75) while Allison Guindon provided Haverford with another high finish in a field event when she took third in the pole vault as she cleared a career indoor-best 2.64m (8-8.00).

The Fords claimed third place through ninth place in the mile as senior Bridget Gibbons led the way with a third-place finish (5:29.40) in her first collegiate meet. Kelley Riffenburgh finished fourth with a career-best time of 5:30.25. 

Sophomore Sedona Murphy also ran well as her career-best time of 1:04.27 was good for fourth in the 400m. 

Haverford returns to action in 2013 when it heads to the Armory in New York City for the NYU Invitational on Jan. 19.
