Season continues for women's track at NYU Invite

NEW YORK CITY - The Haverford College women's indoor track & field team continued its season Saturday night at New York University's Saturday Night Shootout.

Senior Emily Scott led the Fords' effort at the Armory's New Balance Track and Field Center with a 10th-place finish in the mile. Scott delivered Haverford's best performance in the mile this season with a time of 5 minutes, 15.23 seconds that currently ranks 27th on the national Division III qualifying list. Sophomore Maggie Heffernan placed 17th with a career-best time of 5:26.97.

Junior Charlotte Lellman's time of 10:47.05 was good for 12th in the 3,000-meter run while sophomore Nora Weathers and Senior Flora Berklein placed 15th and 16th, respectively.

Junior Katherine Greifeld and Erin Seglem also ran well on Saturday as Greifeld took 16th in the 800 with a time of 2:26.05 while Seglem finished 19th (2:26.75) out of 40-plus competitors.

Scott, Heffernan and Greifeld joined forces with freshman Clarice Bourland to register a time of 10:06.87 in the 4x800.

Bourland's classmate Brittany Steele had a strong night as she finished 17th in the 200-meter dash with a season-best mark of 26.69 seconds despite having to go up against mostly D-I runners.

Junior Carolyn Oehrig and freshman Elizabeth Reikowski were the lone Fords to compete off the track as they both took part in the triple jump. Oehrig registered a mark of 10.18 meters (33 feet, 4.75 inches) while Reikowski was able to reach 9.94m (32-7.5) on her second attempt of the night.

No team scoring was kept at Saturday's meet which featured competitors from D-I, D-II, D-III, as well as representatives from several track clubs.

Haverford will close out its January schedule with the Haverford Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 25. The action at the Gary Lutnick Tennis & Track Center in Alumni Field House will begin at noon.
