Women's track finishes 4th at Tufts Stampede

MEDFORD, Mass. - The Haverford College women's indoor track & field team placed fourth out of 17 teams at the Tufts (University) Stampede on Saturday.

The 800-meter run saw four Fords finish in the top 10 as sophomore Nora Weathers placed second in 2 minutes, 21.38 seconds. Weather's time currently ranks third among performances in the Centennial Conference this season. Senior Erin Seglem's season-best time of 2:23.94 was good for fourth and juniors Katherine Greifeld and Katie Balmer finished 9th and 10th, respectively.

Weathers, Seglem and Greifeld later joined forces with Emily Scott to earn Haverford's highest finish of the day as the quartet placed first in the 4x800 relay in 9:39.98. The performance ranks first in the conference this season.

Scott was also impressive in the mile as the she placed fourth with a career-best mark of 5:06.45. The senior's time currently ranks third on the Centennial performance list and 14th among all Division III performances.

The Fords placed three in the top 10 in the 5,000m with senior Flora Berklein taking second in 18:21.58. Junior Charlotte Lellman finished third (18:36.38) and senior Chelsea Thorsheim came in eighth (19:29.16).

Freshman Clarice Bourland provided another top finish in the 1,000m with a third-place time of 3:07.15 while sophomore Molly Allen's time of 10:55.69 in the 3,000 was good for sixth.

Brittany Steele helped Haverford register its first points of the day with a third-place finish of 8.01 second in the 60m dash. Steele's time matched her collegiate-best mark that currently ranks first on the conference performance list. The freshman also added a fourth-place time of 27.12 in the 200.

Junior Kimberly Haughton and freshman Elizabeth Reikowski competed off the track with a 10th-place finish in the long jump and seventh-place finish in the triple jump, respectively.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) finished first in the team standings with 231.50 points while host Tufts placed second with a total of 165.50. Bowdoin College edged the Fords for third with 71 points. Haverford accumulated 64 points while the Coast Guard Academy rounded out the top five (53.50).

The Fords' season continues next Saturday as they host the Seamus McElligott Invitational at the Gary Lutnick Tennis and Track Center beginning at 11 a.m.
