HAVERFORD, Pa. - Haverford College freshman Brittany Steele earned two goal medals on the closing day of the 2014 Centennial Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Gary Lutnick Tennis & Track Center in Alumni Field House.

Participating in her first conference meet, Steele left a lasting impression as she edged Brynn Parsons of Johns Hopkins University by one tenth of a second to claim the top prize in the 60-meter dash with a program-record time of 7.91 seconds. Steele's time moves ahead of the previous program record of 7.96 set by Christina Neilson '11.

Steele then delivered another first-place performance in the 200 as she narrowly defeated Parsons again with a time of 26.51.

Also running well was sophomore Nora Weathers who finished third in the mile with a career-best time of 5 minutes, 8.89 seconds and fourth (2:22.61) in the 800 meter run.

Senior Emily Scott placed fourth in the mile to help Haverford earn 11 team points in the event overall.

Scott's classmate Erin Seglem added another point for the Fords with an eighth-place finish (1:03.05) in the 400.

Haverford's relay squads accounted for the rest of the Fords' points on the day. The 4x400 quartet of Seglem, Mariah Braxton, Stephanie Kahn and Weathers registered a season-best time of 4:13.93 to take third in the meet's final event.

The distance medley relay squad of Clarice Bourland, Kahn, Katherine Greifeld and Charlotte Lellman also finished third to give Haverford six more points.

Steele, Jade Andrade, Carolyn Oehrig and Yue Xiang joined forces for a fourth-place finish in the 4x200 while the 4x800 squad (Bourland, Michaela Novakovic, Bridget Freeley, Scott) placed fifth.

The Fords finished sixth overall in the team standings with 58 points. Johns Hopkins claimed the team title with 243.33 points.

Swarthmore College's second-place performance (81.50 points) gave the Garnet a point in the race for the Hood Trophy. Haverford currently holds a seven-point advantage (8.5-1.5) in the friendly competition between the two rivals.
