Women's Indoor Track Shines at Tiger Open

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Haverford College women's indoor track & field team sent nine runners to compete at the Tiger Open on the campus of Princeton University. Despite the smaller squad than usual, the Fords were still able to break into the school's record book with three different performances that made the College's top 10 list all-time.

Katie Sullivan had the highest individual place of the day as she took fourth overall in the 800 meters. Sullivan's personal best time of 2:20.52 won her heat by over half a second. That time makes her the 10th fastest individual in school history in the event. Nora Weathers also ran the second heat, finishing 16th overall in the final standings with a time of 2:27.99.

Weathers capped off her day in grand fashion as a member of Haverford's distance medley relay. Weathers ran the lead off leg and was followed by Katherine Greifeld, Katie Balmer, and Kelley Riffenburgh. Those four runners finished in a time of 12:33.96, a time that ranks third in NCAA Division III at press time. The Fords finished seventh overall in the field behind five teams from Princeton and the Williams "A" squad. The Ephs finished in 12:24.03 and are now ranked No. 1 in division III in the event.

Running the second leg of the relay was also the second event of the day for Greifeld. Prior to the relay, Greifeld placed 12th overall in the 1,000 meters. Her personal best time of 3:07.1 made her third fastest individual in school history in the event.

The Fords also sent two individuals to compete in the mile and 3,000 meter races. Amelia Keyser-Gibson ran a personal best time of 5:28.67 to place 20th overall in the field, while Maggie Heffernan finished in 27th overall (5:42.29). Two freshmen also made their 3,000 meter collegiate debuts. Nicole Giannetti finished in a time of 10:40.43 in her first collegiate race at this distance. Sarah Wade was just behind her in 18th with a time of 10:52.81.

Up next for the women's track & field team will be a trip up north for the Tufts Invitational. That meet is slated for next Saturday, January 31.
