HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's indoor track & field team enjoyed a successful split squad weekend of competition as the team sent athletes to both the Villanova Invitational at Staten Island and the Frank Colden Invitational which was hosted by Ursinus.
Katie Sullivan led Haverford to the finish line in the mile in Staten Island as her time of 5:06.31 placed her 21st in the event. Nora Weathers was 23rd in the event with a time of 5:08.28. Sullivan's time ranks her eighth in school history in the event.
Nicole Giannetti's 10th place finish in the 3,000 meters led a trio of Fords in that event with her time of 10:10.09. That mark moves her up to third all-time in the Haverford record books. Amelia Keyser-Gibson (10:17.03) and Maggie Heffernan (10:35.52) were 12th and 17th overall in the race. Keyser-Gibson now ranks fifth in school history after Saturday's results.
Claire Sargent rounded out the Haverford contingent as the lone field event registrant. Sargent's shot put toss of 12 meters placed her ninth in the field of 25 finishers.
The Fords' success at Ursinus was highlighted by numerous top 10 finishes. Haverford was especially successful in the sprints. Brittany Steele and Taylor Murphy each recorded top five finishes in the 60 meter dash and hurdles, respectively. Steele was fourth fastest in the 60 meter preliminaries before cutting one-hundredth of a second off her time in the finals during a fifth place finish. Murphy was sixth in the 60 meter hurdle preliminaries and improved to fifth overall in the finals. Her fastest time of the day came in the preliminary round.
In the 200 meters, Murphy finished ninth overall with a time of 27.45 seconds. Steele was just behind her teammate in the individual results with a time of 27.93 seconds to place 11th in the final standings. Steele was also the team's top finisher in the triple jump with a leap of 10.50 meters as she placed eighth. Elizabeth Reikowski also had a top 10 finish with her triple jump of 10.28 meters.
Steele and Murphy also closed the day by running the first two legs of Haverford's 4x200 relay that placed third overall. Kerry Quigley and Tess Oberholtzer ran the back end of the relay that placed third overall with a time of 1:51.30. The Fords also had a fourth place 4x400 meter relay that consisted of Oberholtzer, Quigley, Yue Xiang, and Amy Zamora. That quad of runners finished in a time of 4:19.67.
Haverford also had a top 10 finish from MaryKate Cavanaugh in the mile as she finished with a time of 5:35.79 to lead her pack of teammates. Sophie Drew was the team's top finisher in the 800 meters with a time of 2:32.37. Other top Haverford finishers included Grace Mathis (pole vault, 2.55 meters), Quigley (long jump, 4.68 meters) and Xiang (400 meters, 1:05.40).
Women's indoor track & field will now return home for its final two meets before the Centennial Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships. Up first will be the second Widener Dual Meet of the year which is scheduled to get underway at 4:30 p.m. inside the Alumni Field House on Monday, February 15.
