Taylor Murphy Named CC Indoor Track & Field Outstanding Rookie

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Taylor Murphy and Fran Rizzo were both named Centennial Conference year-end award winners for the indoor track & field season as announced by conference officials. Murphy was named the outstanding rookie of the meet, while Rizzo repeated his honor as coach of the year.

In her very first Centennial Conference Championship, Murphy was a member of Haverford's winning 4x200 relay team and also earned second, third, and fourth place finishes in her other sprinting events. Murphy's honor marks the second time in the award's three-year history a Haverford athlete has earned this distinction. Now a junior, Brittany Steele also won this award during the 2013-14 season.

Joining up with Steele, Kerry Quigley, and Tess Oberholtzer on the winning 4x200 relay team, that group of runners was six-tenths of a second faster than its nearest competition from Ursinus. The win was Haverford's eighth overall in the history of the Centennial Conference. The Fords now have double the win total of their nearest competitors in the event after the team's first win since in the 4x200 relay since the 2011 season. That relay team ranks fifth in program history.

Murphy also moved up the Haverford ranks with personal bests in each of her individual sprints. Her runner-up finish in the 200 meters now ranks her third in school history. The Fords' freshman is now fourth in program history after her third place finish in the 60 meter hurdles. She is now ranked third in school history in the 60 meter dash following a fourth place showing.

Fran Rizzo was named the Centennial Conference Coach of the Year after leading the Fords to seven different event wins during a second place team showing. Rizzo's honor is his seventh across all three seasons at the conference level. He was named the indoor coach of the year last winter and during the 2009 indoor season. He has earned that award three times in cross country and once more during the outdoor season.
