Season Preview: Women's Indoor Track & Field Returns Several Decorated Athletes

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's indoor track & field team found great success a season ago as the Fords crowned four All-Americans and had a combined seven Centennial Conference Championship performances between individual results and relay teams.

Haverford returns four of its five individual champions, every leg of the championship relays, and three of its four All-Americans from the team's third place finish in the distance medley relay. Katie Sullivan and Amelia Keyser-Gibson both won Centennial Conference individual titles and were on the All-America relay. Sullivan is the reigning 800 meter champion in the conference and ran that leg on the school record setting DMR.

Keyser-Gibson won the 5,000 meter CC title and was a member of the conference-winning DMR. Sophie Drew, Nicole Giannetti, and Amy Zamora also competed on the DMR during the conference meet to earn first-team All-Centennial Conference honors.

In the sprints, Brittany Steele enters the season as the reigning champion in the 60 meter dash at the conference level. She was also a part of Haverford's 4x200 championship relay at the Centennial Conference meet. Taylor Murphy was named the Centennial Conference Indoor Track & Field Rookie of the Year a season ago as she placed second in the 200 meters and third in the 60 meter hurdles. Murphy was also on the 4x200 meter relay.

Kerry Quigley was also a Centennial Conference Champion and All-American in her freshman season. She was on the 4x200 meter relay at the conference meet and ran the 400 meter leg of the DMR at the NCAA Championship. Tess Oberholtzer was also a first-team All-Centennial Conference honoree on the championship 4x200 meter relay.

In the field events, Claire Sargent will enter her junior season as the reigning conference champion in the shot put. She was also named the Centennial Conference Indoor Field Athlete of the Week during the month of January last year. Elizabeth Reikowski added All-Centennial Conference honors to the track team with a third place finish in the triple jump a season ago. The Fords also got a school record indoor pole vault from Mairead Ferry last winter (10-foot-4).

Last season's indoor track & field campaign saw Haverford claim its most individual and relay titles since the 2009 season when the Fords had five individual champions and three relay championship teams. Scoring 120.5 points, that total was Haverford's highest since the 2011 season.

Women's indoor track & field will open its season this Saturday at the Ursinus Bow Tie Meet. The Fords will host the Haverford Holiday Meet on Thursday, December 8 inside the Alumni Field House before breaking until the middle of January. During the spring semester, Haverford will also host the McElligott (Feb. 11) and Keogh Invitationals (Feb. 18).
