Women's Track & Field Opens 2017 at F&M Invitational

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Haverford College women's indoor track & field team competed in its first meet of the New Year on Saturday at the Franklin & Marshall Coach I Invitational. With entrants spread throughout all the different disciplines, the Fords recorded a total of nine top five finishes on the day.

Taylor Murphy was responsible for three of those top five finishes. Her best individual finish came in the 60 meter hurdles where she placed second overall with a time of 9.38 seconds. Murphy was also fourth in the 60 meter dash (8.34 seconds) and fifth in the 200 meters (28.05 seconds). In both the 60 meter hurdles and 60 meter dash, Murphy was the top individual qualifier to the final from the heats.

She was joined in the 60 meter dash finals by Marisa Antinori who placed fifth with an identical time of 8.34 seconds time before going to the hundredths of a second. Mairead Ferry also qualified for the finals of the hurdle event.

Along with the sprints, Haverford entered four individuals in the 3,000 meters. All four of those entrants were among the top 15 finishers. That group was led by Katie Sullivan's runner-up finish in a time of 10:36.47. Amelia Keyser-Gibson also made the top five with a time of 10:50.27 while Sarah Wade (11:09.28) and MaryKate Cavanaugh (11:30.38) were ninth and 15th overall.

Competing on the track at a non-traditional distance, Sophie Drew placed third overall in the 1,000 meters with a time of 3:15.0. That time marked the seventh fastest in school history for the event. Grace Pindzola earned a 14th place finish in the 400 meters (1:08.85) and Mckenna Krall was 18th in the mile (6:03.50).

Claire Sargent earned a runner-up finish in the shot put with a toss of 11.97 meters while teammate Juanita St. Thomas-Grimes was 20th with her best toss of 8.58 meters. In addition to her exploits on the track, Antinori was third in the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, four inches. Kerry Quigley was 14th in the long jump with her jump of 12-5.57. In pole vault, Grace Mathis improved her personal best by clearing 9-0.25 and moving up to fifth in school history.

Women's indoor track & field will be return to action next weekend at the Collegeville Invitational hosted by Ursinus on Saturday, January 21.
