NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Katie Sullivan advanced to the finals of the mile race at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday with a time of 5:02.22. She is one of 10 runners in the mile who will compete for the national championship tomorrow at 1 p.m. CST (2 p.m. EST). The top eight individual finishers will earn All-America status.

Sullivan competed in the second heat and was setting the pace for the vast majority of the race. She ended up finishing fourth in her heat. However, her mark was good enough to claim the last spot in the final based on time after the top three finishers from each heat automatically advanced to the national final.

The winner of the second heat, Maya Weigel of Pomona-Pitzer, was the top overall runner in the preliminaries as she crossed the line in a time of 5:00.54. Less than two seconds decided the first through 10th places overall during Friday's heats.

Sullivan is the fourth runner in program history to qualify for the mile. With Sullivan's result today, three of those entrants have now made the final. Haverford's last All-American in the event was Annick Lamar '08 in 2008 as she placed fourth. Sullivan will be looking for her second All-American honor as she ran the 800 meter leg of the Fords' third-place DMR during the 2016 indoor season.
