HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's indoor track & field team got its season started during Villanova's Jack Pyrah Invitational inside of Haverford College's Alumni Field House. Even with just two senior captains competing, the results were outstanding as Claire Sargent tied the school's indoor record in the shot put.

Sargent's throw of 41 feet, five inches (12.62m) ties the previous school record set by Jackie Freund '10 which she set at the 2010 Centennial Conference Championships. Sargent's throw was 1.21 meters and nearly four feet clear of her closest competitor from Norfolk State on Saturday afternoon. Already the school record holder in the shot put during the outdoor season, today's mark was a two and three-quarter inch improvement from her best throw last season.

Nicole Giannetti, the school record holder in the 3,000 meters, finished 17th in that same event on Saturday with a time of 10:16.41. That time was not a new personal best for the record holding senior, but was still a mark topped by just three other individuals in program history.

Haverford will look to have many more individuals make their indoor track & field season debuts next Saturday when the Fords host the Haverford Holiday Meet back inside the Alumni Field House. Action is scheduled to get underway at noon that day.
