NEW YORK CITY – The Haverford College women's indoor track & field team set 11 new personal bests on Friday during New York University's Division III Invitational which was hosted at the Armory. In addition to shattering numerous PRs, six different Fords claimed top 10 individual finishes as Haverford competed against some of the top teams along the east coast.
In a meet that featured many of Haverford's sprinters, Jessica Lopez turned in a pair of scoring performances as she was seventh in both the 60 meter dash (8.11 seconds in final) and the 200 meters (26.94 seconds). She qualified to the finals of the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.07 seconds. The Fords' sophomore now holds the eighth fastest 200 meter time in school history with today's new mark.
Naomi Fukuda also turned in a personal best time in the 60 meter dash (8.56 seconds). Jasmine Reed and Julia Coletti did the same in the 200 meters with times of 27.94 seconds and 28.37 seconds, respectively. Coletti also ran a personal best time of 1:03.25 as the Fords' lone entrant in the 400 meters. In the 60 meter hurdles, Tess Oberholtzer missed the finals by just one-hundredth of a second to place ninth overall with a time of 9.82 seconds.
Moving into the mid-distance, three of Haverford's entrants in the mile came away with new personal records. Sophie Drew placed fourth overall as she crossed the line in a career-best time of 5:08.54. Griffin Kaulbach (5:19.58) and Izzy Miller (5:31.71) also set new bests with 12th and 18th place showings. During the 5,000 meter race, both of Haverford's entrants set new personal bests. Julia Smith (18:47.06) was ninth in that event, while Angie Petrichenko (19:09.39) was 13th overall. Molly Hawkins led Haverford's entrants in the 800 meters, crossing the line in a time of 2:30.07.
In the field events, thrower Unique Tuberville just missed a pair of top 10 showings. She became just the second individual in program history to contest the weight throw, placing 11th with a mark of 10.07 meters (33'-0.5") in her event debut. Her best throw in the shot put (11.20 meters; 36'-9") earned her 12th place overall.
Kerry Quigley led Haverford in both the long jump (4.57 meters; 15 feet) and triple jump (9.48 meters; 31'-1.25"). Naomi Fukuda (4.53 meters; 14'-10.5") and Marisa Antinori (4.48 meters; 14'-8.5") were right behind her in the long jump standings. Grace Mathis also contested the triple jump, finishing 13th, as her best leap tied Quigley's best mark.
Women's indoor track & field will continue its weekend on Saturday as more individuals are scheduled to compete at Ursinus' Frank Colden Invitational. That meet will get underway at 10 a.m.
