Sophie Drew Wins 800 Meters at Frank Colden Invitational

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Haverford College women's indoor track & field team wrapped up a busy weekend of competition at Ursinus' Frank Colden Invitational on Saturday. Competing for the second straight day, Haverford saw several more individual PRs broken even with less than half of the team competing in today's meet.

Sophie Drew highlighted the day with an individual win in the 800 meters, crossing the line in 2:22.94. She finished over four seconds ahead of her closest competitor to claim the third individual event title of her indoor career. Her finish was the first win at the 800 meter distance indoors. Griffin Kaulbach (2:29.63) also ran a personal best time to place seventh, while Izzy Miller was 11th (2:31.17) in her first time contesting the event. Marly Banatte (2:45.79) added a 37th place showing.

Haverford also had four entrants in the mile, led by Mckenna Krall's PR of 5:43.89 to place sixth. Natalia Cordon (6:01.92), Annie Connolly-Sporing (6:12.07), and Maggie Doubman (6:13.17) also ran in that event. Mariana Ramirez was the team's lone entrant in the 3,000 meters. She placed 11th with a time of 11:53.89 in her first race at that distance.

The Fords entered a pair of 4x200 relays. The relay of Marisa Antinori, Jessica Lopez, Naomi Fukuda, and Jasmine Reed won its heat and placed fifth overall with a time of 1:52.01. Tess Oberholtzer, Julia Coletti, Grace Pindzola, and Kerry Quigley also teamed up to finish in 1:57.30 for a ninth-place finish.

In the field events, Grace Mathis was fifth in the pole vault. She cleared a season best height of 2.90 meters (9'-6.25"). Mari Horton's best throw in the shot put (10.41 meters; 34'-2") placed her 13th overall. Sophia Nelson was 24th in the long jump with her best leap being marked at 4.26 meters (13'-11.75"). Louise Bednarik contested the pentathlon. She set new personal bests in the 60 meter hurdles (11.28 seconds) and long jump (4.13 meters; 13'-6.75").

Women's indoor track & field will be back at its home venue on Saturday, February 16 for the Keogh Invitational. That meet is slated to get underway at 10:30 a.m. inside the Alumni Field House. The Keogh Invitational will be the final meet of the regular season before the team returns back to Ursinus for the Centennial Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships to close the month of February.
