Strong showing by Haverford on opening day of Widener Invitational

CHESTER, Pa. - The Haverford College women's outdoor track & field team registered several season-best performances at the opening day of the Widener University Invitational on Friday evening.

Sophomore Kelley Riffenburgh and junior Emily Scott were the top Division III finishers in the 5,000-meter run. Riffenburgh placed seventh with an outdoor-best time of 18 minutes, 24.30 seconds while Scott followed closely in eighth with a new career-best time (18:24.31). Junior Flora Berklein (12th, 18:34.17), senior Sheera Rosenbaum (14th, 18:43.18) and freshman Csilla Vamos (16th, 19:12.53) also finished in the top half of the field of over 30 runners. Berklein's time was a new outdoor best while Rosenbaum came through with a career-best performance.

The Fords also shone brightly off the track as senior Emma Kornetsky's season-best distance of 10.44 meters (34 feet, 3 inches) was good for fifth in the triple jump. Sophomore Carolyn Oehrig took seventh.

Senior Dominique Meeks' season-best performance gave Haverford a top-10 finish in the shot put. Meeks's eighth-place throw traveled 11.26m (36-11.50). Sophomore Robin Chernow placed 12th.

The Widener Invitational concludes on Saturday with field events beginning at 9 a.m. Action on the track starts at 11 a.m.
