Women's track begins outdoor season at Philly College Classic

PHILADELPHIA - Several members of the Haverford College women's track team opened the outdoor season by competing in the Philadelphia College Classic hosted by the University of Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon at historic Franklin Field.

Senior Emily Scott and freshman Clarice Bourland were the only Division III competitors in the 1,500-meter run but they made their presence known. Scott placed fifth with a career-best time of 4 minutes, 46.46 seconds while Bourland, running in her first collegiate outdoor meet, finished in sixth (4:49.83).

The Fords also ran well in the 3,000m as sophomore Nora Weathers took 11th in 10:33.65. Junior Charlotte Lellman placed 13th with a career-best time of 10:44.55 while seniors Flora Berklein (18th, 10:55.89) and Bridget Freeley (20th, 11:04.58) also placed in the top 20.

Haverford returns to action next Friday and Saturday when the squad travels to Widener University to compete in the Danny Curran Invitational.
