Women's Track & Field Competes at Bill Butler Invite

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Haverford College women's track & field program sent a large contingent of sprinters to the Bill Butler Invitational and came away with four top five finishes. The meet, which was hosted by West Chester University, also saw a number of personal records in the field events for the Fords.

Brittany Steele posted a pair of top five finishes to highlight Haverford's day in the sprints. She finished third overall in the 200 meters (26.42 seconds) and fifth in the 100 meters (12.71 seconds). Her 100 time, an event in which she is the College's co-record holder from last season, has only been topped by those two school record holders.

Carolyn Oehrig (100 meter hurdles) and Sedona Murphy (400 meters) each recorded fourth place finishes in those respective events. Oehrig finished in a time of 16.75 seconds in the hurdles. She also posted a 20th place finish in the 200 meters (28.03 seconds). Robin Chernow added a 13th place finish in the 100 meter hurdles. Murphy finished the 400 meters in a time of 1:03.47. Yue Xiang (1:06.27) and Amy Zamora (1:08.97) added seventh and 13th place finishes to Haverford for the event.

The Fords also sent two runners to compete in the 5,000 meters. Liana Alves led the pair of Haverford runners with a 12th place finish in a time of 21:45.65. Amanda Glavin was two spots behind her with a time of 22:02.30.

In the field events, Claire Sargent finished with a personal best throw in the shot put with a distance of 11.98 meters. Her new outdoor PR moves her up to second in the College's record book. In the discus, Emily Anderson's throw of 34.17 meters moved her up to eighth in the school's record book and placed her fifth overall in the event. Anderson was also seventh in the shot put (9.78 meters). Chernow finished ninth overall in the shot put (9.51 meters).

In the jumps, Oehrig and Elizabeth Reikowski each set new personal bests in the triple jump. Oehrig placed seventh overall with a leap of 10.35 meters to keep her spot as ninth overall in school history. Reikowski placed eighth overall in Saturday's meet with a jump of 10.29 meters, keeping her 10th in the Haverford record book. Kimberly Haughton made it three Fords in the top 10 with a triple jump distance of 9.41 meters. She also placed 13th to lead Haverford in the long jump (4.33 meters).

Women's track & field has another split weekend on the horizon. The Fords will look to send runners to compete at the Princeton Distance Night and the Widener Invitational next Friday evening. The Widener Invitational will continue into that Saturday.
