Women's Track & Field Finishes Third at Centennial Outdoor Championship

CARLISLE, Pa. – The Haverford College women's outdoor track & field rocketed up the team standings on the final day of the Centennial Conference Championships and placed third overall with 102 points at the conclusion of the meet. Sunday's performances were highlighted by championship runs from Brittany Steele and Katie Sullivan, while several others turned in All-Centennial Conference worthy showings.

Steele repeated her 100 meter championship from last year's meet in the finals on Sunday with a time of 12.44 seconds. That razor thin margin earned her the conference title by two-hundredths of a second over Swarthmore's Kayla Camacho. Steele was also fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.39 seconds. Taylor Murphy also scored in both those races with a fifth place finish in the 200 meters and seventh place showing in the 100 meter dash. Murphy was also the runner-up in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.93 seconds.

Haverford also got a first place finish from Sullivan in the 800 meters after she also won this event during the indoor track season. Sullivan crossed the line in a time of 2:16.42, exactly four-tenths of a second ahead of her closest competitor. Nora Weathers also competed in this event and placed eighth. Weathers strongest showing came with a runner-up finish in the 1500 meters as she crossed the line in a time of 4:40.61. Also in the distance races, Amelia Keyser-Gibson was second in the 5,000 meters (17:35.93), while Maggie Heffernan also scored points with a seventh place finish in that race (18:15.50).

The Fords' final individual scoring performance on the track came with an eighth place showing from Kerry Quigley in the 400 meters as she finished in 1:05.39. Quigley joined Grace Mathis, Murphy, and Steele on the 4x100 relay team who placed sixth. Haverford's 4x400 meter relay team of Quigley, Murphy, Caroline Henry, and Sullivan placed seventh overall.

In the field events, Haverford got a runner-up finish from Claire Sargent in the shot put as her best throw was marked at 12.03 meters. Elizabeth Reikowski also scored placement points as she was fourth in the triple jump with her best leap being measured at 10.66 meters.

The women's outdoor track & field team will now have a week away of competition before it gets set for a week of last chance meets to secure any final qualifiers to the NCAA Championships.
