2016 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team

Haverford, Pa. – Nora Weathers '16 has been named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area team for the first time for her track and field achievements. The recent Haverford graduate completed her Haverford career as a two-time All-American on the track. The teams are voted on by the sports information offices of the 29 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area honors, an athlete must be in at least his or her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better.

Weathers earned her second All-American recognition this winter when she anchored the Fords' distance medley relay to a third place finish at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. In Haverford's first time qualifying a relay to the national championship, Weathers was setting the pace on the anchor leg until the final laps. She was also an All-American in outdoor track during her junior season with a sixth place finish in the 1,500 meters.

The Fords' captain was also a two-time Centennial Conference Champion as she won the mile during the 2016 indoor season and the 1,500 meters during the 2015 outdoor season. In total, she earned seven All-Centennial Conference honors during her track career for finishes in the top three of her events.

Voted Haverford's Gregory Kannerstein '63 Award recipient, Weathers graduates as the school record holder in the outdoor 1,500 meters and was a part of the record-breaking DMR. She also ranks among the top five individuals in school history in three other events.

Weathers is joined on the Philadelphia Inquirer All-Area Team by Swarthmore teammates Katie Jo McMenamin (performer of the year) and Sarah Nielsen; Siofra Cleirigh Buttner and Anne Yahiro of Villanova; Samantha DeCapua of Widener; Erin Farrell of Ursinus; Kelsey Hay of Penn; Dannah Hayward of Saint Joseph's; and Jessalynn Wright of Rowan.
