Women's Track & Field Wins Five Events at Haverford Midweek Meet

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Competing in the Haverford Midweek, its only home meet of the season, the Haverford College women's track & field team put on a show Wednesday afternoon. The Fords totaled five first-place finishes and seven runner-up finishes at the Johnson Track in the 12 events that Haverford entered athletes.

Three of Haverford's championship performances came in the field events as Elizabeth Reikowski won the triple jump, Sophia Nelson won the long jump, and Unique Tuberville won the hammer throw.

Reikowski set a new personal best in the triple jump with a mark of 10.86 meters. Sophia Nelson was one of three individuals who set new personal bests for Haverford in the long jump. Her mark of 5.17 meters was followed by Marisa Antinori (5.15m) in second, Reikowski (5.07m) in fourth, and Kerry Quigley (4.79m) in sixth place. Grace Mathis (10.09m) and Louise Bednarik (9.21m) also turned in top five performances in the triple jump. Mathis' finish came on top of a third place finish on Monday in the pole vault competition where she cleared a personal best mark of 2.95 meters.

Tuberville's hammer throw of 32.93 meters topped teammate Claire Sargent (30.08m) for first in that event. Emily Anderson added to a strong throwing day with a second place finish in the discus (35.31m) and third place finish in the javelin (23.16m). Sargent and Tuberville also recorded top five finishes in the discus alongside Anderson.

On the track, Nicole Giannetti ran away with the steeplechase title as she crossed the line in a time of 11:56.64. Haverford also got a championship run from its 4x100 relay team of Antinori, Taylor Murphy, Tess Oberholtzer, and Quigley. That relay crossed the line in a time of 51.08 seconds. Oberholtzer went on to place second in the 100 meter hurdles (16.26 seconds) and fourth in the 200 meters (28.06 seconds). Quigley (28.77 seconds) and Grace Pindzola (29.33 seconds) also had top 10 finishes in the 200 meters.

Haverford also had strong contingents in the 800 and 1,500 meter races, earning runner-up finishes in both events. Sophie Drew was second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:23.02. Mariana Ramirez (2:29.99) also had a top five finish, while Amy Zamora (2:31.87), Mckenna Krall (2:35.28), and Michelle Luu (2:48.49) finished seventh, ninth, and 13th, respectively. Sarah Wade was second in the 1,500 meters with a time of 5:24.31, while Daisy Zhan was sixth in that event with a time of 6:20.16.

The women's track & field team will travel to the TCNJ Invitational this weekend. The first events will take place on Friday while the bulk of the action gets underway on Saturday. That meet will be the Fords' final competition before the Centennial Conference Championships.
