Centennial Conference Championship Central
HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's outdoor track & field team will head to Baltimore this weekend for the Centennial Conference Championships. The Fords have placed third at each of the last two conference outdoor championships and have been among the top three teams in 19 of the 23 Centennial Outdoor Championships that have been contested.
Haverford has had at least two conference champions in 20 of the previous 23 championship meets. The Fords enter this weekend with a pair of top seeds in Katie Sullivan (800 meters) and Taylor Murphy (100 meter hurdles). Sullivan is already a three-time conference champion and six-time All-Centennial Conference performer in track. She is the reigning champion in the outdoor 800 meters after placing second during the indoor season this winter. Sullivan is also the second seed in the mile where she was the indoor champion this year in the mile.
Taylor Murphy won the indoor 60 meter hurdle title in the winter and will look to carry that success into this weekend. She placed second in the hurdles at last year's outdoor championship. Murphy is also ranked fifth in the 200 meters entering the weekend. Also looking to score in the hurdles with Murphy will be seventh-seeded Tess Oberholtzer. Marissa Antinori is the No. 11 seed in the 100 meter dash for the Fords.
These three sprinters, along with Kerry Quigley, make up the fourth fastest 4x100 relay in the conference from the regular season. Sullivan joins the 4x400 relay which is seeded fifth. The team of Sophie Drew, Mariana Ramirez, Amy Zamora, and Sullivan will make up the 4x800 relay. The Fords have not contested that event this spring, but did place fourth last season.
Haverford also boasts several other runners who will be looking to score in the distance events. Three runners are seeded in the top eight scoring positions for the 10,000 meters. Amelia Keyser-Gibson, a two-time conference champion, is seeded third in the 10K. MaryKate Cavanaugh (No. 5), Allison Hacker (No. 8), and Amanda Glavin (No. 10) are also threats to score for Haverford. Keyser-Gibson will also contest the 5,000 meters – where she won an indoor title in 2016 – and is seeded ninth in that event. Nicole Giannetti is ranked seventh in the steeplechase and 10th in the 1,500 meters entering the weekend.
The jumpers are coming off of multiple top 10 performances in school history. In the long jump, Sophia Nelson (No. 3), Antinori (No. 5), and Elizabeth Reikowski (No. 8) are all projected to score. Reikowski, a two-time All-Centennial Conference performer indoors in the triple jump, is seeded second coming off of a runner-up finish this winter. Grace Mathis is the seventh seed in the pole vault and will also contest the triple jump where her best leap was the 10th best in the conference during the regular season.
In the throws, Claire Sargent – a four-time all-conference performer and 2016 indoor champion – is ranked third in the shot put. She was second in that event a year ago. The school record holder in the hammer, she is also seeded fifth in that event and 12th in discus. Emily Anderson is ranked fifth in the discus and will also compete in javelin and shot put. Unique Tuberville is the sixth seed in the hammer and will also enter the shot put and discus.
The conference's outdoor championship will get underway on Friday afternoon and continue through Sunday.
