Women's Track & Field Defeats Widener in Haverford Midweek Meet

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's outdoor track & field team had the individual winner in nine of the 12 events the Fords entered on Monday afternoon to win the Haverford College Midweek dual meet against Widener by a score of 212-130.

Haverford's throwers swept each of the four events with Mari Horton taking home first place in both the shot put (9.48 meters) and javelin (27.64 meters). The first year was also second in the discus (23.72 meters). Unique Tuberville won the hammer with a throw of 35.61 meters after coming in second during the shot put with her best throw being marked at 8.89 meters.

Emily Anderson won the discus with her best throw on Monday being marked at 33.58 meters. Claire Sargent  and Karen Mondaca made it a clean sweep of the top three spots in hammer for the hosts with their respective throws of 34.00 meters and 24.28 meters.

Continuing the team's success in the field events, Kerry Quigley (4.75 meters) and Louise Bednarik (3.87 meters) went first and second in the long jump, while Bednarik was third overall in the high jump (1.06 meters).

On the track, Jessica Lopez won the 100 meter dash in a time of 12.87 seconds and was Haverford's top finisher in the 200 meters with a time of 26.89 seconds. Haverford also swept the top three spots in the 100 meter hurdles, with Tess Oberholtzer taking home the individual title in a time of 17.46 seconds after coming in third during the 200 meters (28.15 seconds).

Katie Sullivan won the 800 meters with a time of 2:17.60 to highlight the Fords claiming the top five times in that event. Jolie Jaycobs was the Fords' top finisher in the 1,500 meters with a time of 5:07.59. She was bested only by Kelley Riffenburgh '15. Nicole Giannetti won the modified 2,000 meter steeplechase in a time of 7:15.52.

Women's track & field will continue its final week of the regular season as Claire Sargent contests the shot put at the historic Penn Relays this Thursday. The rest of the Fords will return to action on Saturday for TCNJ's Lion Invitational.
