Centennial Conference Championship Central
HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's track & field team will head to Ursinus for the 2018 Centennial Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The championship meet will get underway on Friday and continue through Sunday. The Fords have 19 top-eight seeds, which ranks third among all teams. Several more individuals are lurking just outside of that group and will look to make their way into scoring positions this weekend.
Katie Sullivan is Haverford's highest ranked entrant this weekend as she is seeded second in the 1,500 meter field and fifth in the 800 meter field. Sullivan is the reigning champion in the 1,500 meter event. The senior is also a three-time All-Centennial Conference performer in the 800 meter outdoor event, winning the individual title in 2016.
Joining Sullivan in the 1,500 meter field, senior teammates Amelia Keyser-Gibson and Nicole Giannetti are also projected scorers. Keyser-Gibson is also seeded fourth in the 5,000 meters where she placed second during the 2016 outdoor championship. Keyser-Gibson is a three-time champion on the indoor surface where she is the reigning conference champion in the mile and captured the 5,000 meter title in 2016. Giannetti is the reigning conference runner-up in the steeplechase, the event she qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships a season ago. She is seeded fourth in the steeplechase coming into the weekend.
Sophie Drew could also make some noise in the mid-distance races. She is seeded seventh in the 800 meter field and will look to move into scoring position during the 5,000 meter race as she currently holds the 11th fastest time in the conference this season. Haverford also has a pair of top six seeds in the 10,000 meter event with MaryKate Cavanaugh and Angie Petrichenko both ranked among the projected scorers in the conference.
In the sprints, Jessica Lopez is ranked fourth entering the weekend in the 100 meter dash. She is also slated to compete in the triple jump where she is ranked seventh heading into the championship. Kerry Quigley will contest both the long and triple jumps. She is sitting just one spot out of a scoring position on the performance list for both events and will look to bolster her team's score with a strong showing this weekend. Tess Oberholtzer and Kat Turner are seeded seventh and eighth in the 100 meter hurdles.
Those same sprinters will likely make up the Fords' 4x100 meter relay which is ranked fourth in the conference. Haverford is seeded seventh in the 4x400 meter relay. The Fords' 4x800 meter relay has not competed during the outdoor season, but was second during the conference's indoor championship during the winter.
In the throwing events, defending conference champion Claire Sargent is ranked third in the shot put. She is a three-time champion in that event between the indoor and outdoor seasons. The school record holder in the shot put and hammer throw, she is seeded sixth in the hammer for this upcoming weekend. Sargent is also slated to compete in discus. Unique Tuberville, the former school record holder in hammer, is seeded eighth in that event. Emily Anderson, a two-time All-Centennial Conference performer in discus during her career, is ranked ninth in her specialty event heading into the championship.
