Sargent Breaks School Record in Shot Put to Capture Fourth CC Individual Title

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Claire Sargent won her fourth career Centennial Conference Championship to cap a total of 13 scoring performances on the final day of the Centennial Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Those scores helped Haverford finish in fifth place overall with a total of 81 points during the three-day championship meet.

Sargent broke her own school record in the shot put, besting her previous outdoor best by nearly two feet. A two-time champion during both the indoor and outdoor seasons, the Fords' senior captain had her best throw marked at 13.08 meters (42 feet, 11 inches).

Amelia Keyser-Gibson nearly captured another individual conference title for the Fords as she ran a four-plus second personal best in the 5,000 meters to place second overall. Her time of 17:17.01 ranks second in school history.

Katie Sullivan had a pair of scoring runs on Sunday. She placed third in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:35.69. Keyser-Gibson was fourth in that same event with a time of 4:38.69, moving her up to the seventh fastest individual in school history. Nicole Giannetti just missed a scoring place with a ninth place finish (4:48.54) during that event. Sullivan and Sophie Drew were also sixth and seventh in the 800 meter finals with respective times of 2:19.03 and 2:19.92.

In the sprint finals, Tess Oberholtzer (16.31 seconds) and Kat Turner (16.36 seconds) matched their preliminary seed placements with fourth and sixth place finishes on Sunday. Oberholtzer and Turner joined Marisa Antinori and Kerry Quigley in the 4x100 meter relay that crossed the line in fourth place with a time of 51.12 seconds. The 4x400 meter relay of Oberholtzer, Amalia Axinn, Molly Hawkins, and Quigley placed eighth in the meet (4:19.56).

Jessica Lopez was fifth overall in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.13 seconds.  Lopez also added seventh place showing in the triple jump with her best mark of 10.16 meters, while Quigley was ninth in that same event (9.96 meters). Mari Horton also added a ninth place finish in the javelin (27.15 meters).

Looking to garner more potential qualifiers to the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Haverford will compete at both the Swarthmore (May 14) and Widener (May 17) last chance meets.
