Women's Outdoor Track & Field Shines for Home Crowd at Haverford Midweek Invitational

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's outdoor track & field team showed off in front of its home crowd on Monday afternoon as the Fords won nine of the 12 events in which they entered a student-athlete. Those results, which included 19 season bests, helped the Fords defeat Widener by a commanding 207-119 dual meet score.

Jessica Lopez, Grace Mathis, Unique Tuberville, and Mari Horton were each double-event champions for the Fords to pace the strong showing. Lopez won the 100 meter (12.54 seconds) and 200 meter (26.24 seconds) dashes with season best times in each. Lopez's PR in the 100 meters is now the top mark in the conference and keeps her third all-time in school history. Lopez also moved up to fourth in school history for the 200 meters with her most recent performance. Jasmine Reed (13.19 seconds) and Marisa Antinori (13.39 seconds) made it a perfect 3-for-3 in Ford PRs during the 100 meter dash.

In addition to Lopez, three other personal bests fell for Haverford is the 200 meters as Julia Coletti (27.40 seconds), Ruanna Small (27.83), and Sharon Nwankpa (27.98) all had career days while Naomi Fukuda (27.80) was third overall in that event. Also competing in the 400 meters, Coletti (1:01.69) and Nwankpa (1:03.93) added to their career days while Small (1:03.86) was fourth in that event. In addition to running a 400 meter dash for the first time in her collegiate career, Lauren Tanel was additionally faced with a hurdle in her path but still crossed the line with a strong time of 1:04.88.

Grace Mathis' two event wins came in the pole vault (where she broke the school record) and triple jump as she set new personal bests in both. She cleared 3.13 meters (10'-3.25") in the pole vault to move up to fourth in the conference while her triple jump was marked at 10.22 meters (33'-6.5"). In the long jump, Fiona Flynn moved up to fourth in the Centennial Conference with a personal-best distance of 5.03 meters (16'-6"). Kerry Quigley also scored in the jumps as she was second in the triple jump (10.05m; 32'-11.75") and sixth in the long jump (4.67m; 15-4").

The Fords swept all four throwing events on Monday, with Unique Tuberville taking home top honors in the hammer (37.62m; 123'-5") and shot put (10.71,; 35'-1.75"). Tuberville matched her PR from a week ago to double down on her ninth place position in the school record books in addition to her hammer record. Mari Horton was also a double winner as she captured the discus (27.20m; 89-3") and javelin (31.76m; 104'-2") individual titles, adding a second place finish to Tuberville in the shot put with a mark of 10.38 meters (34'-0.75"). Louise Bednarik was second to Horton in the javelin (16.21m; 53'-2") in her first time contesting that event while Sophie Nelson placed third with a personal best in the shot put (8.15m; 26'9").

Haverford's single event winner on Monday was Molly Hawkins as she took home first place in the 800 meters with a time of 2:26.91. The Fords swept the top five spots in that event with Mariana Ramirez (2:29.81), Marly Banattte (2:33.70), Amalia Axinn (2:37.13), and Grace Pindzola (2:50.19) following her to the finish. The Fords also had a second place performance from Tess Oberholtzer in the 100 meter hurdles (16.84 seconds) in other action on the track.

Women's track & field will continue its busy week this Thursday with select individuals competing at the Penn Relays before the Fords travel to New Jersey for the TCNJ Lions Invitational on Saturday.
