Women’s volleyball splits pair of matches at the Blue Jay Classic

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Haverford College women's volleyball team took part in a pair of sweeps at the Blue Jay Classic hosted by Elizabethtown College Saturday. The Fords fell in three sets to No. 11 Juniata College (25-12, 25-15, 25-21), then bounced back to take out St. Mary's (Md.) College 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-23).

In the opener against Juniata (8-4) outside hitter Laura Ramos recorded eight kills and 14 digs, both team highs. Setter Haley Lowrance recorded 15 assists, eight digs and four kills. Middle hitter Olivia Coburn-Flynn added four kills and libero Sarah Brody had eight digs.

Against St. Mary's  (3-12) Ramos picked up her team-leading sixth double-double of the season after racking up 10 kills and 10 digs. Outside hitter Emily Mills had seven kills. Lowrance and Coburn-Flynn added six kills each. Lowrance also recorded 21 assists. As a team the Fords had a hitting percentage of .252 (37 kills, seven errors, 119 attempts). The team is now 6-1 when it has a hitting percentage of at least .200.

Haverford (6-8) returns to Centennial Conference play with a road match at Muhlenberg College Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. The Fords have won 29 straight regular season conference matches.
