Volleyball earns academic honor from AVCA

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Haverford College's volleyball team has been honored with inclusion on the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) 2012-13 Team Academic Award listing as released by the organization Wednesday.

The Fords are one of 93 Division III women's programs to earn a spot on the registry which totals 622 collegiate and high school teams. Joining Haverford within the D-III listing are Centennial Conference foes Swarthmore College and Washington College.

To be eligible for the academic award a team must maintain a grade point average of at least 3.30 (on a 4.00 scale) for the academic year.

The 622 teams on the academic roll call is a record high for the AVCA which established the team academic award with the 1992-93 season.

Haverford's 2012 season culminated in the Centennial postseason tournament where the Fords downed Gettysburg College, 3-0, in the opening round before bowing out in the semifinal round to top seed and host Franklin & Marshall College.
