Fords take conference opener from Dickinson, 3-0

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College volleyball team opened the Centennial Conference portion of its schedule with a dominating 3-0 victory over visiting Dickinson College on Saturday afternoon at Gooding Arena.

Meeting for the second time in a week, the Fords (7-2, 1-0 CC) claimed their 12th straight victory over the Red Devils (3-7, 0-1) in efficient fashion (25-16, 25-19, 25-13). Haverford has not given up one set to Dickinson over the last six meetings.

The Fords' offense was clicking as sophomores Meg O'Day (14 kills), Keri Godbe (13) and Nina Mutty (11) all reached double figures in kills. The trio accounted for 38 of Haverford's 47 kills as Haverford registered a .201 hitting percentage on the day. Sophomore Olivia Walsh and freshman Abby Keller shared time directing the offense with Walsh tallying 20 assists and Keller adding 18.

Winning its fifth consecutive match of the season, Haverford was once again impressive on defense as the squad tallied 74 total digs which caused the Red Devils to have a negative attack percentage for the match overall. Mutty led the effort with 15 digs and four block assists while Godbe and junior Sarah Brody each chipped in with 14 digs. Junior Madison Fuelling also reached double digits in digs with 12.

The Dickinson offense was led by Laura Silverman with six kills while Grace Morgan's 20 digs led the defensive effort.

The Fords and Red Devils had met just last week as they clashed in non-conference play at the Crusader Classic hosted by Susquehanna University with the Fords also taking that one by a 3-0 score.

Haverford gets back into action on Sept. 21 when it travels to Chester, Pa., to take on host Widener University at noon and Cabrini College at 2 p.m. in non-conference action.
