O'Day powers Fords past Ursinus

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Meg O'Day was perfect on the attack as the Haverford College volleyball team powered past host Ursinus College, 3-0, in Centennial Conference action at Helfferich Hall on Wednesday night.

O'Day established a new program record for attack percentage in a single contest as the sophomore registered 16 kills without an error in 22 attack attempts. The .727 attack percentage on the night surpasses Laura Nuyen's previous record of .700 from October of 2007.

The stellar performance by O'Day enabled the Fords (11-4, 2-1 CC) to sweep past the Bears (25-20, 25-14, 25-20). Keri Godbe and Nina Mutty added eight kills apiece as Haverford registered an impressive .271 hitting percentage overall.

Olivia Walsh and Abby Keller both reached double figures in assists with 16 and 10, respectively. Mutty was also dangerous at the service line with four aces.

The Fords' defense limited Ursinus (7-9, 0-5) to a mere .067 attack percentage for the match as the hosts paired 31 kills with 24 errors. Junior Sarah Brody paced the effort with 12 digs.

Karla Thiele led the Bears with 13 kills and Gina Powers registered a match-high 20 assists.

Haverford returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Franklin & Marshall College for a contest with the Diplomats. The Centennial match begins at noon.
