Sophomore duo earns first-team all-conference recognition

LANCASTER, Pa. - Haverford College sophomores Keri Godbe and Meg O'Day earned first-team All-Centennial Conference recognition when the league announced its 2013 all-conference volleyball squad on Tuesday.

Godbe (pictured, on left) and O'Day (pictured, on right) were at the focal point of the Fords' attack as they topped the Centennial Conference in points with 479 and 442, respectively. The duo, the 19th and 20th first-team selections in program history, also ranked 1-2 in total kills as Godbe tallied 437 and O'Day registered 365.

Godbe, named honorable mention all-conference after her freshman campaign, was a consistent performer throughout the season as she registered 24 double-digit kill performances including 14 straight to start the season. Finishing second in the conference in kills per set (4.28), the outside hitter's single-season performance of 437 kills ranks fourth all-time in program history. The sophomore, a member of the conference's academic honor roll, was also an asset on defense as she reached double figures in digs 24 times and led the team with 403 digs overall. Ranking fifth in the conference in digs per set (3.95), Godbe registered 21 double-doubles including a stellar outing on Sept. 28 when she tallied new career highs in kills and digs in a non-conference match against Elizabethtown College with 27 and 32, respectively. The 27 kills constituted a new program record for kills in a four-set match.

O'Day, the lone unanimous first-team selection among the conference coaches, finished third in the conference in kills per set (3.72) and hitting percentage (.348). The middle hitter reached double digits in kills in the final 11 matches of the season and 22 overall. Among the list of impressive efforts was a sparkling night at Ursinus College on Oct. 2 where the sophomore made her way into the program annals with a .727 single-match hitting percentage (16 kills, 0 errors, 22 attack opportunities). O'Day was also a force at the net as she tied for fourth in the conference in solo blocks with 23 and registered a block in 24 of the Fords' 28 contests. Named first-team all-conference for the second straight season, O'Day currently ranks second all-time in career hitting percentage (.346).

Godbe, with 767 career kills, and O'Day, with 707 career kills, have certainly made their mark on the Haverford attack as they rank 12th and 14th, respectively, in program history with two more anticipated seasons to come in their careers.

Sophomore Jeanna Kenney was named to the conference's all-sportsmanship team.

Franklin & Marshall College junior Julie Harvey was named the player of the year and Muhlenberg College freshman Allison Glass was recognized at the league's top newcomer. Senior Lizzy Kuhn of Gettysburg College earned the scholar-athlete award and McDaniel College's Jessica Cortese was voted coach of the year.
