O'Day Wins Centennial Conference Player of the Week

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Junior Meg O'Day of the Haverford College volleyball team was named the Centennial Conference player of the week as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. 

O'Day was a vital part of the Fords' 3-1 week which included a victory over the No. 14 Eastern University Eagles. Last Wednesday, the Fords defeated the McDaniel Green Terror 3-2 (17-25, 25-21, 25-22, 22-25, 15-11) to pick up their second conference win of the year. In the McDaniel match, O'Day tied her career-high with 22 kills with her final two kills being the last two points in the deciding fifth set to secure the victory. She finished the conference match with a .312 attack percentage, a solo block and five block assists. 

The junior continued her stellar play with 13 kills, a .333 attack percentage, two solo blocks and seven block assists in Haverford's 3-1 win over Widener (25-27, 25-19, 25-18, 25-14). In the Fords' 3-2 upset win over No. 14 Eastern (16-25, 29-27, 23-25, 25-22, 15-10), O'Day tied her career-high again with 22 kills, recorded a .390 attack percentage and five block assists. Despite falling to Salisbury 3-1 (18-25, 25-18, 22-25, 17-25), O'Day contributed 15 kills and a .367 attack percentage.

For the season, the native of Fort Thomas, Ky. leads the Centennial Conference with 255 kills and 74 total blocks. O'Day is also first in points with 320 and is tied for first with a .359 attack percentage. She has a streak of 27 consecutive matches with at least ten kills and is only the second Ford volleyball player to be rewarded with the player of the week award since the 2011 season.

The Fords (10-7, 2-0 CC) host conference rival Franklin and Marshall on Wednesday at the Gooding '84 Arena at 7 pm. On Saturday, Haverford will welcome Gettysburg and Baruch in a tri-match beginning at 12 p.m.
