Volleyball Splits The Day At Dickinson Tri-Match

CARLISLE, Pa. – The Haverford Volleyball team traveled to conference foe Dickinson for a Tri-Match on Saturday, falling to the host Red Devils in the conference opener 3-1 before defeating North Carolina Wesleyan 3-1. Haverford now sits at 6-3 on the season (0-1 Centennial). The Red Devils are 7-5 (1-0 Centennial) on the season after sweeping the day while the Battling Bishops are 2-8 after a pair of losses.

Against Dickinson, Haverford fell 27-25, 17-25, 19-25, 19-25. The Fords took the first set in a marathon before falling in the next three. Maddie Becker led the Fords attack with a career-best 18 kills in the effort. Hailey O'Mara had five blocks to pace the visitors.  The Fords had four players with double-digit dig totals including Sara Matsumura, O'Mara, Becker and Zoe Wong. Wong returned to the lineup after missing the win over Lancaster Bible on Wednesday, posting 32 assists from the setter spot. 

In the match against North Carolina Wesleyan, the Fords dropped the first set 22-25 before rallying for a four-set win with 25-23, 25-9 and 25-14 scores.  Becker followed her career-high with a 14 kills in the second match of the day while Natalie Pisch had 12 kills on just 30 swings to lead the Fords in hitting with a .333 mark on the day.  Sara Matsumura set a new career-high with 27 digs while O'Mara added 18 of her own and tallied a career-best four solo blocks. Kaylynn Mayo finished with six total blocks for the best Fords' output of the day. Becker set a new personal best with four service aces.

Haverford will continue the 2016 conference campaign with a match against Johns Hopkins in Baltimore on Wednesday. The match is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m. as the 2016 squad makes their initial foray outside of Pennsylvania.
