Volleyball Posts Road Sweep Of Ursinus

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Haverford College volleyball team came away as road winners with a 3-0 sweep over host Ursinus on Wednesday night, with set scores of 25-16, 25-17, 25-13. Haverford improves to 9-8 overall and 2-3 in Centennial Conference action. In a well-rounded effort, Natalie Pisch and Valentine Courouble each had eight kills to pace the Fords. Maddie Becker tallied four service aces while Zoe Wong had 22 assists in three sets.

In the first set, after the score was tied at 9-9, Haverford was able to get out to a 14-9 lead behind Kaylynn Mayo's service run. Ursinus cut the lead to 14-12 but from that point forward the visitors benefited from a 9-4 run to seal the first set of action. Natalie Pisch contributed three kills in the run before Zoe Wong ended it with a dump from the setter position.

The second set was more of the same for Haverford as the Fords and Bears were locked at 10-10 before Haverford pulled away with a 15-7 run.  Pisch was again vital for the visitors while Courouble helped pace the offense that benefited from service errors and attack errors from the Bears that dotted the final moments of the set.

In the third and final set of the night, Haverford took control to cruise 25-13. The Fords were up just 11-10 but pulled away thanks to a negative hitting percentage from Ursinus and a bevy of service aces. Kaylynn Mayo ended it all with a kill to give Haverford a second consecutive Centennial victory.

Allison Raff led the way for the host Bears with 13 kills while Kelly Piotrowicz posted 15 assists. Sydney Gonzalez had 17 digs.

The Fords will return to action tomorrow night as DeSales comes into Gooding '84 Arena for a 7:00 p.m. first serve in a non-conference matchup.
