Wong Named First Team All-CC, Matsumura and Pisch Tabbed Honorable Mention

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford volleyball senior co-captain setter Zoe Wong has been named First Team All-Centennial Conference, the conference office announced on Monday morning. In addition, junior co-captain Natalie Pisch and sophomore Sara Matsumura were named honorable mention All-Centennial. Wong's first team selection represents the 17th straight season Haverford has had at least one member of the first team. Wong is the 26th first team selection in Haverford history.

Wong was a standout performer all season for the Fords, earning first team designation for the second straight season. Wong ranked third in the Centennial Conference with 9.18 assists per set, a mark that was also good for 74th in Division III. She established new single-match highs in assists (50, vs. Catholic on September 15) and total blocks, (three, vs. Moravian on September 23) this season. Her 973 total assists in 2017 was the 11th best single-season output in program history.

The product of San Mateo, Calif. leaves the Haverford program in the top five in program history in assists (3,010), assists per set (6.81), service attempts (1,404) and assist percentage (.398). Her .273 career attack percentage is good for eighth all-time in program history.

Pisch, from Blue Bell, Pa., picked up honorable mention honors for the first time after a breakout season as an outside hitter. Pisch led the Centennial Conference in kills per set (3.54) and total kills (375). Pisch established new single-match highs in Kills (24, vs. Catholic on September 15), and digs (23 vs. Rowan and John Carroll on September 2-3) in 2017. Wrapping up her junior campaign, Pisch sits in 14th in program history with 811 kills and 11th with 2.69 kills per set.

Matsumura, from Salt Lake City, Utah, took home honorable mention honors after establishing herself as a formidable presence in the Centennial with a breakout campaign split between the libero position and outside hitter. Matsumura ranks second in the conference with 554 total digs and third with 5.23 digs per set. The sophomore is third in Haverford history in digs per set (4.46) and had the sixth-most digs in single-season program history in her second campaign. This season, Matsumura set new career highs in kills (20, vs. Denison on October 21), digs (38, vs. Muhlenberg on September 20) and blocks (3, vs. Denison on October 21).

In addition to her honorable mention designation, Matsumura was also named to the All-Sportsmanship Team for the second straight season.

Elizabeth Wuerstle of Johns Hopkins was named Player of the Year for the second straight season as the Blue Jays captured back-to-back Centennial Conference championships. Setter Natalie Aston took home Rookie of the Year honors for the Blue Jays while Johns Hopkins' Tim Cole reprised his Coach of the Year award from a season ago.

Haverford finished the 2017 season with a 16-13 overall record, the sixth straight season the squad has eclipsed the 15-win mark.

The Fords will now await the announcement of All-Region and All-America awards, as the AVCA makes those decisions in the coming weeks.
