WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Haverford College volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to host McDaniel on Wednesday evening inside Gill Gymnasium on the McDaniel campus. The Fords fell into a 2-0 hole before rallying to take the third set. McDaniel stormed back to capture the match in four. Set scores for the match were 25-16, 25-19, 21-25, 25-18. Haverford falls to 8-16 (2-5 CC) while McDaniel improves to 16-5 (5-3 CC).

Dina Kosyagin tallied double-digit kills for the sixth time in the last seven matches, finishing with 11. Madison Adore notched a new career high with 11 kills on 22 total swings. Sara Hunsberger tallied 30 assists and added 11 digs while Sara Matsumura had a match-best 30 digs, and three service aces.

McDaniel opened up the first set on a 14-5 run, and stretched the lead to 22-10 behind Regan Gefroh at the service line. The Fords made things interesting with a 5-0 run behind Matsumura at the service line, as Adore and Riley Outen each delivered kills to help pull the Fords within seven at 22-15. McDaniel grabbed three of the next four to pull to a 25-16 victory in the first.

The second set saw Haverford and McDaniel closely matched in the early goings, with neither team taking a lead of more than two points until Allie Lugar added back-to-back kills to give McDaniel an 11-8 advantage and Makayla Patterson made it 12-8 with a kill of her own. Haverford rallied with kills from Natalie Pisch and Outen to pull back to within two, but McDaniel opened up on a big run to take a 20-12 lead. The Fords cut the advantage to four at 21-17, but Lugar and Isabel Paci both used kills to key the final moments of the set as McDaniel took it 25-19.

The third set appeared to be in the favor of McDaniel as the hosts jetted out to a 7-0 lead. The Fords battled back with a consistent approach, tying the score at 18-18. Adore and Pisch teamed up to key a 3-0 run that allowed Haverford to take a late 23-20 lead, and Adore gave Haverford a 24-21 lead before a ball handling error on the McDaniel setter allowed the Fords to get a set in their column.

Haverford looked poised to continue the resurgence into the fourth set, with an Adore kill tying the score at 5-5 early. Unfortunately for the Fords, McDaniel would turn that early tie into a 15-7 advantage, eventually cruising to a 21-10 lead. Refusing to quit, the Fords used a strong blocking effort to cut the Green Terror advantage to just six at 23-17. Emma Lorenzen notched kills on each of the next two McDaniel points, sealing the match win with a 25-18 set victory.

Lugar and Marlow Embry each had double-digit kills for McDaniel, with Lugar adding 13 while Embry notched 12. Taylor Bauman had 17 digs for the Green Terror while Gayle Edelstein amassed 28 assists. Makayla Patterson had a match-best seven total blocks.

The Fords will return to action on Saturday, facing off with Dickinson and Manhattanville in a home tri-match. The Fords will celebrate co-captain Natalie Pisch on Senior Day inside Gooding '84 Arena prior to the 12:00 p.m. first serve with the Red Devils.
